Racks
Straight Racks
Gambini Meccanica's straight (spur) racks come in a variety of quality classes, lengths, heat treatment methods, and modules. The straight racks can be hardened via case-hardening, carburizing, or induction-hardening. Quality classes available are from 5 through 10 with modules available from 1 to 12 and lengths up to more than 2000mm, with lengths being multiples of pi for straight racks.
Straight racks have the benefit of not producing any axial load during operation. This means that the supporting shaft and structural system can be smaller and more affordable.
Helical Racks
Gambini Meccanica's helical racks come in a variety of quality classes, lengths, heat treatment methods, and modules. The helical racks can be hardened via case-hardening, carburizing, or induction-hardening. Quality classes available are from 5 through 10 with modules available from 1 to 12 and lengths up to more than 2000mm, with lengths being round numbers for helical racks. The angle of the teeth to the rack length on helical racks is 19º 31' 42.
Helical racks are preferred to straight racks often due to quieter performance as well as being able to carry a larger load for the same size rack and pinion. This is due to helical racks and pinions having more teeth meshing, and thus have a greater load bearing surface area.
